We always book on the same website, Booking.com; the reason is that it is easy, has hotels all over the world, is trustworthy, and has many comments from other customers.
And usually allows you to make reservations without paying in advance and thus cancel the reservation if something happens, at least up to 24 hours before.
So with this post, we pursue two things fundamentally: the first is to teach you how to manage this platform if you do not know it, and the second is to give you an already selected battery of hotels so that you do not have to look too much.
So you can spend your time planning other aspects of your trip and not the hotels of Route 66.

When you access booking.com, it allows you to search by entering a few data. Just enter the destination and, optionally, the dates on which we want to stay.
There is also the option to search for a hotel for work or leisure. This is fine because they filter the result according to different needs:
- For work, they look at breakfast, Wi-Fi, or parking
- Leisure: Search by price, location, or ratings of other travelers.
Date Selection. Are You flexible? Then you’ll save money with the hotels on Route 66
Until recently, to make a booking reservation and know on any other hotel platform, it was necessary to indicate the dates when you were going to stay. With the booking, you can do something similar to what we do with Skyscanner.
You tell it which city you want to stay in, but you don’t indicate dates, and what does it make a booking?
Because it shows you a very mono graphic that tells you which days are the cheapest hotels and which are the most expensive.
Thus, combining this hotel selection tool with the flight selection tool provided by Skyscanner minimizes your costs.
If you already have your planning closed, then you won’t be able to use this tool to search for route 66 hotels, but don’t worry about us taking a hand.
How to Refine Your Search in Booking.com
When you search booking.com, you see a hundred hotels, and also, the ones that put you above are the ones that interest them but that are not normally the ones that interest us because they are expensive.
So it’s time to refine your booking search, and for this, you have two powerful tools; the first one is the filters, and the second is like sorting the results.
Filters on Booking.com. First filter!
Filters on Booking.com are one of its most powerful alternatives; you can filter the list of hotels by almost anything you need.
A filter can remove from the selection of those hotels that do not meet the requirements of the filter.
You can filter by user reviews, for example, which is super useful because that’s how you really find out how the hotel is. So that’s already saved us from some upsets.
The filters you can apply are:
- Star. With this filter, you indicate the number of stars of the hotels you want. You can select several options, so it’s worth leaving everything selected except what you don’t want.
- Type of accommodation. With this filter, you indicate the type of accommodation you want or don’t want. You can choose hotels, motels, cottages, inns, resorts, houses, chalets, hostels and the latest I have seen private rooms in private homes.
- Score. One of the most important and super useful filters. It allows you to filter accommodation by user reviews and by the rating given to the accommodation. Logically, I don’t look at anything below an 8 if I can choose. If there’s nothing else, at least you know what you’re going to do.
- Services. This filter is used for Wi-Fi so I can choose accommodations with Wi-Fi. You can also filter whether or not you have a gym, whether it is pet friendly, whether it has a spa, parking, restaurant, or swimming pool.
- In-room amenities. This filter I use little or nothing. You can filter by whether it has air conditioning, hydromassage, or kitchen.
- Area. This filter is super useful because it allows you to choose which area of the city you want to stay in.
- Chain. I don’t have any preferences for any brand, and I don’t know of any that are bad enough to exclude it, so I don’t use this filter either.
Sort in Booking.com
Well, now that you’ve filtered the results and only accommodations that meet all your requirements and need already appear, that’s when it makes sense to apply an order to the results.
Booking.com lets us sort by:
- Your recommendations
- Price
- Number of stars
- Distance from the city centre
- Score
For me, logically, the most useful thing is to sort by price and distance from the city center.
Booking Guides
This is a novelty that has included booking.com, and that is very good. Once you have finished making your reservation with booking.com, they provide you with a guide to the city where you will go.
Normally they are in English, and you always have them available in your booking account.
Hotels on Route 66
Well, now that we know how to use and book in booking.com, we can already do a little more focused search on our goal than are the stops on Route 66 that we’re going to do.
Each of you will have different planning, so I put my planning here to start, and as you make inquiries, we will add new accommodations for these places.
Also, if you know one that we have not included or you can give us some assessment that we do not know, great, we will include it without delay.
So let’s start just as we have our planning, from Los Angeles to Chicago.
In these big cities, it’s worth looking for hostels or motels; they’re cheaper compared to hotels. But they are almost always very well located.
Please note that we are saving you the search here, but we have not been to most of these sites, and therefore we cannot give you our opinion. We can only sleep in one hotel/motel at a time, lol.
That’s why we’ll tell you accommodations with a good user rating.
Another detail, we are doing Route 66, so we assume that you have your own car or means of transport and therefore, we will not give importance to the distance that the accommodation of the center is in the big cities.
