Haneda vs Narita: Choosing the Right Tokyo Airport for Your Trip

Narita Airport

Narita International Airport (NRT) is located about 75 km east of central Tokyo, in Chiba Prefecture.  Due to its distance from the city, the travel time to the center of Tokyo, for example, to Shibuya, is one and a half hours, depending on the means of transport chosen.

Haneda Airport

Haneda International Airport (HND), on the other hand, is much closer to the city center, located about 20 km south of Tokyo. Travel time to central Tokyo usually takes about 30 minutes, and transportation options include the Tokyo Monorail, Keikyu Line, buses, and cabs.

The Best Tokyo Airport: Narita Vs Haneda

From our experience, the best airport to travel to Tokyo is Haneda.  Since it is closer to the city center, it is very well connected and the flight prices, for us traveling from Paris, were more convenient.

Pro Tip to Save Time

You can add a Pasmo or Suica card to your wallet on an iPhone. If you use android, take a look on the Google Wallet. Then, use your phone to pay, and don’t forget to add money to your transport card. You’ll save a lot of time if you do that!
